The surface texture of the Grip Tiles adopts the usual pattern of the checker plate. The tiles format reinterprets it: they can be laid out as a continuous pattern or by turning every second tile 90° as an irregular one. This gives them an ornamental appearance. The different materiality of ceramics instead of steel also changes how the pattern is perceived visually and tactilely.
